Almost every form you fill out asks for some emergency numbers—who to call in time of trouble. You put down the person that is closest to you, the most reliable, the most faithful. You register the one that you can count on. For David, that number would have been G-O-D.

But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God,in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
(Psalm 69:13)

 THE SINGULAR DIRECTION

Other men might call out in other directions or turn to other sources for help. David proclaims that regardless of where others might turn “my prayer is to you, O LORD.”

The term “LORD” signifies that God is above all. It reminds us of David’s submission, that God was His master, His Lord. And it also reminds us that He is the Lord of heaven and earth. He is over everything, controls everything and works it all together in His sovereign way for His purposes.

THE PERFECT TIMING

David knew that God would come to him and help him “at an acceptable time.” God is never in a hurry, but always on time. Our shortsightedness causes us to think less of God’s timetable, but God always knows exactly what He is about. He lets trials go until they run their necessary course for our training and His glory.  Every ounce of good is obtained through the economy of God’s timing. But He always comes to our rescue at the acceptable time.

THE ABUNDANT CHARACTER

David was assured of God’s deliverance because of God’s character. His love is steadfast and never wavering. His salvation is always faithful. And all of this mercy is “abundant.” There is no lack. We cannot exhaust His capabilities. This is why David turns His prayer to God. God candeliver, will deliver and will continually deliver. What a Savior!

Why would you turn to anyone else?
