Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire

From time to time I read a book that is not only a gripping story but that has lasting impact on my life. Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala is such a book. Recently I re-read it for the third time and I found myself inspired and moved again by the story.

Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire is a story of brokenness, weakness, desperateness and dependence in a struggling inner-city church in New York City. It is the story of God calling the church to pray. It is the story of all that happened as a result of becoming a church devoted to prayer. It is the story of transformed lives and the power of Christ.
It is difficult for churches and Christians in the United States to realize how desperate we are for a mighty work of God in our midst. We do not live in a land of intense persecution. We do not face life and death situations. Most of us do not struggle with dire poverty. It is all too easy to rely on our own resources and upon the resources of others. That is our loss. For when we realize our desperateness before God, when we realize how much we all need God, then we will begin calling out to God in fervent prayer and God will pour out his presence and power upon us.
